I turn into a Lalettan Fan

The liking towards Lalettan gradually grew up into something like admiration and I became a fan of Lalettan. The following are the movies that inspired me.

Action/Thriller movies
Rajavinte Makan (1986), Irupatham Nootandu(1987), Aryan(1988), Devasuram(1993), Sphadikam (1995), Kanmadam (1998) (I am not sure, if Kanmadam and Devasuram are character roles or action roles)

Comedy Movies
Nadodikattu(1987), Kilukkam(1991), Chithram(1988) (Interestingly, many Lal fans view Kilukkam and Chitram as "serious" or character movie/role)

Character Roles
Panchagni(1986), Amritham Gamaya(1987), Kireedom(1989), Sadayam(1992), Kamaladalam(1992).

Art Movies
Paadamudra(1988)

I think "Rajavinte Makan" was a turning point for Lalettan. It made him an action hero from a "innocent-vulnerable" look.

The character roles had a great impact. His expressions were un-matched. You could find thousands of meanings to his expressions. He never cries loud in movies. His eyes fill with tear and a very natural grief comes to his face. Such an effortless reproduction. I felt like, he simply lives as the character.

I like Mohanlal

Mammootty, Shankar, Ratheesh and Mohanlal. Those were the popular and "fair" heroes when I was in school.

Mammootty was the hero of the women viewers. Mostly doing the characters such as IAS Officer, Advocate, Doctor or Engineer. Always represent the creamiest layer of the society. We see a very mature, naturally belonging to my next generation people, Mammootty. "He is not a my kind of a guy" - an alien. When I compare myself with him, I fail in all aspects with the characters of Mammootty

(a) He is very mature, I am not.
(b) He is a hero, I am a coward.
(c) He delivers powerful dialogs, I cannot
(d) He defends any attacks, I avoids attacks
(e) He is too masculine

Result: I dont like Mammootty

Shankar was a budding hero at that time. He dont have any sense of comedy. His face is always in the same posture. I dont like him

Retheesh was a hero is few movies. He looks good. Fights well in stunt seens. I like him very much

Mohanlal - I liked Mohanlal very much. He is very simple, at times very naughty. Never serious. He is like the boy next door.

(a) Lal is not very mature, in movies like Sanmanasullavarkku Samadhaanam - 1986 or Gandhinagar 2nd Street - 1986 or T P Balagopalan MP - 1986 he behaves a lot like less mature a person. He comes closer to me...

(b) He is too innocent and vulnerable - as most of my friends
(c) He doesn't throw powerful dialogs at the villains - comes still closer to me

Result - He enters my heart.

So my liking towards the heroes of that time -
1. Mohanlal
2. Retheesh
3. Sankar
4. Mammootty

I hate Jayan

When I was a kid, I was a Jayan hater.

I liked Soman (Main reason - I have seen only Jayan in photos)

The only movies I could watch in Cinema Theaters are

(1) Ezham Kadalinakkare - 1979 (Beyond the 7th Sea)

(2) My Dear Kuttichathan - 1984 (My Dear Devil-let)

(3) Nakha Kshathangal - 1986 (Nail Wounds)

I didn't mean those are the only movies I watched till I come out of my school. My schooling was in the God's Own Kuttanad, the land surrounded by backwaters. And the only cinema theater is 5Kms away and there is no motorable road to reach there. The only way we could experience movies is when a Cinema "Operator" (ref: Madhavan in "Kazhcha") is kind enough to run a film show in our school.

I had seen "Ummachu - 1971", "Jeevitham Oru Gaanam - 1979", "Misiha Charithram - 1978", and I dont remember the rest of the movies. Now you can understand, why M.G. Soman was my child-hood hero. He was the hero in "Ezham Kadalinakkare". The motivating factor of Ezhamkadalinakkare (despite the 5 Kms + 5Kms walk to the theater - Champakkulam Chitra) was the movie was shot in "AMERICA" the wonderful dream land. So that was my only chance to see America.

I was surrendered to M.G. Soman with the fight seens.

Why I hate Jayan?

Simple.... He is Jayan. I havent seen any of his movies (I could see a Jayan movie only after a TV came to my home - around 1990. Doordarshan used to show old movies every saturday or sunday; I forgot). But I hear - he is a very brave and daring man. He don't need any dupes while shooting movies. No one can beat him in fights. So I simply hated him. I embraced M G Soman in my heart.

I start here....

It all started from a mail thread - about Mohan Lal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and a media hoax about a movie which died within the womb. The Great Poonaji (a.k.a. Anoop G) suggested me to start a blog.

I was not amused. But when the mail below from SanBalas a.k.a. Santhosh Balasubrahmaniam reached me, the pain he took to think about what I posted him, made me think about blogging.

To give you the background, let me introduce myself. I am a Mammootty hater. (I guess Mammootty needs no introduction here - none other than the so called Super Mega Star of Malayalam and other South Indian languages)

We (Poonaji, Sanbalas, Binoj, Sajan, Sudarshan Lal, Shameer et. al) usually engages in very hot criticism about malayalam movies, espeically the M&M (Mammootty and MohanLal)

Now that I start blogging. Let the "un-employed" netizens read me and throw stones (or rotten eggs) at me.

Here is the mail from SanBalas
